Unity Whale 158 SNOWBOARD REVIEW 2016
Description
TESTER: Brent Fullerton
BOARD: Unity Whale 158
OVERALL IMPRESSION FROM 1 TO 10: 8
OVERALL COMMENTS: Completely different ride than the old whale
RATE THE SHAPE FROM 1 TO 5: 5
SHAPE COMMENT: Versatile Freeride shape
RATE THE FLEX FROM 1 TO 5: 3
FLEX COMMENT: A bit too stiff and reactive in icy, bumpy conditions. Pretty stiff flex pattern from tip to tail
RATE STABILITY THROUGH TURNS: 4
STABILITY THROUGH TURNS: Strong and stable for bigger radius turns. Felt too powerful and unforgiving in tighter spots and short radius turning. I got tossed around in the bumpy trenches and icy luges coming out of the side country
RATE THE GRAPHICS FROM 1 TO 5: 3
GRAPHICS COMMENT: I like the new “handcrafted” unity logo but really I could give a shit about graphics
RATE THE POP/ PLAYFULNESS FROM 1 TO 5: 4
COMMENT ON PLAYFULNESS: Lots of pop from the stiff tale and flat/minimal camber profile. I felt the board rebounding quick out of turns. Playful shape in the soft snow but too directional and stiff to play around on flat ground and jib features
RATE FLOAT IN POW IF AVAILABLE FROM 1 TO 5: 5
COMMENT ON FLOAT IN POW: Great float in powder. The shape of the tail allows in to sink and allows the early rise nose to float higher in the pow. Not as much float as the old whale but the new shape/flex gives it versatility for groomers and hard pack
